Sunbeams, Shoreham Beach

Sunbeams, Shoreham Beach, West Sussex – September 2020

A photograph from the end of last summer. It is a bit “decorative” or new age book cover’ish (“The Wisdom of Pebbles”) – but I still quite like it.

And I took it with the simplest camera I own. There is probably a lesson in there somewhere.

Morning Sun, West Sussex

Morning Sun, West Sussex August 2020

How has your life changed in the last few months?

One of the things I like about life now, are my early morning walks on the parkland near where I live. When I was working, my morning was dominated by my need to get to work – which was always some way away from where I lived. And I’m sure lots of people who lived miles away would have rushing to get to work near where I lived.

Anyway, a pleasure of the last 6 months has been the change from spring into summer. It has got light earlier and earlier and, obviously, warmer too.

A challenge of this photo is the change from the original to this form – for some reason, the shadows looked “richer” if that makes sense. I still like the effect of the light on the grass and the gravel.

Shadow, West Sussex

Tree Shadow, West Sussex June 2020

Another sunset photo. I really like trees and the interesting shadows which they cast. In this case it is from the the sunset. Part of me want to crop this to square with the tree in the middle – but I haven’t. I wonder what the soundtrack might be.?

As you can see, this another view of the park which I have been walking around all these weeks. When I first started walking in the morning and evening, I was mostly alone, but now I regularly have to leave the path to allow other people to pass. I’m writing this on a Thursday evening, knowing that on Monday all the shops in Horsham will open for the first time in almost 3 months. Will it be teaming with people or will they all stay away?

Morning Walk, West Sussex

West Sussex, April 2020

In the UK, we are in lockdown, which means we are all spending a lot more time at home. This picture is from my morning exercise walk through some park land near where I live. The whole situation at the moment is pretty difficult, but the weather has been beautiful.

Long Shadow, Shanghai

Shadow, West Nanjing Road, Shanghai November 2019

Although I have been there quite a few times, I always enjoy walking around Shanghai – there is always something to see.

The camera I was using was made in 1975 and as usual, I found myself wondering what the place I was visiting was like in 1975.

West Nanjing Road is probably the most famous street in Shanghai, running from by Jing An Temple all the way to the Bund. This particular part is being redeveloped as you can see in the photograph.
